Supporters begin gathering signatures for marijuana initiatives

The Libertarian Party of Wyoming and Compassionate Options Wyoming are officially launching signature-gathering efforts this weekend as they attempt to legalize medical Marijuana and decriminalize the possession and cultivation of Marijuana in Wyoming.

As part of similar gatherings around the state, initiative supporters will be hosting a kickoff event at Cody City Park, 908 Sheridan Ave., at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Petitions were received from the Wyoming Secretary of State’s Office on Tuesday, which started the clock on an 18-month deadline to gather signatures. To make the ballot in 2022, initiative supporters will have to obtain signatures from 41,776 registered voters — and they’ll have to gather signatures from at least 15% of the registered voters in at least 16 different Wyoming counties. If supporters intend to gather a qualifying amount of signatures in Park County, they’ll need 2,523 voters to sign.
